'This is just the beginning....'

Suffering from insomnia recently I had figured the problem lay in an over-active mind, still stimulated by things I've read, watched and played in recent times. This has never happened before, so I feel the best method for solving this is to put these thoughts into written form in the hope it will clear my head a little in time.

I've always enjoyed watching movies, TV shows and playing video games. Music is something of a recent passion.

Films for me have always been about escapism and thus I favour Science Fiction, movies a little more removed from reality. The original Star Wars trilogy (and the polarising prequels), the Indiana Jones series (#4 excluded and I'll get to my reasons later), the Nolan and Burton-Batman films and the Back to the Future Trilogy feature heavily in my viewing habits, and I'll make an effort to reviewing each of these films and more.

TV has been along the same lines, escapism was what I was after, and with my penchant for Sci-Fi I gravtiated heavily towards the various Star Trek TV series, some I was too young too appreciate at first, and others I was too young to see where great problems lay. Dexter, The Simpsons, 24, nu-Battlestar Galactica, Futurama, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager, and Enterprise I have seen (and reviewed some of which), whilst I look with optimism towards other shows in the coming months. A review on these would be too time-consuming to do on an episode by episode basis (and I have done just that with Voyager and Enterprise), so in time I'll just give a general overview of each series.

From the N64, PS2, Wii and PC, and will be looking to join up with the rest of humanity and indulge in a PS3 in the hopes of getting it out in time for GTA V either late this year (2012) or next yet. Games I have always enjoyed for the experience, the stories, the skills. I am not an 'avid' gamer nor have I ever been, but as games have advanced in their quality it's been much easier to appreciate the ones I've played, and be equally critical of several others.

And in regards to music, I like to think my taste has improved from an early teen who would listen hours on end to techno music at night. I listen to probably too much Beatles, not nearly as much John Mayer as I used to, and a bizarre range of other groups like Daft Punk, Outkast, Bon Iver, Sarah Blasko, and others. I'll chip in with reviews of only the albums from such artists that interest me the most.

And I may also chip in with my opinion on the sporting arena, I'm a big Cricket, AFL and NRL fan and enjoy each season has it comes for each respective sport, and appreciate the skills involved for all. I don't submit to the unfortunates who cling to the tribal mentality of 'GAYFL vs. Thugby'. Both sports are hugely succesul and engrained in Australian culture and, as we have seen, are able to thrive in areas where both codes are prevalent (though we will wait and see how the poorly named and poorly marketed Greater Western Sydney Giants fare in West Sydney's Rugby heartland).

And with the recent resurgence of Australian cricket after a few years in the doldrums at the hands of poor administration and selection, it will be an interesting time to come in the lead up to the 2013 Ashes campaign.

So, I'll whittle away on a list and be back with the first of many reviews of differing topics.

CDR.
